About Us
The Loves Park Chapter of AMBUCS was chartered in April 1977 and celebrated their 25th year anniversary in April 2002. The club membership has grown to over 40 professional people that come from a variety of backgrounds. These people are committed to serving their community. Nationally, there are approximately 6000 members in 156 clubs in 16 states.
The purpose of the club :
The purpose of the club is to assist those with disabilities achieve greater independence.
What we do:
The Loves Park Chapter of AMBUCS strives to serve people in Loves Park and Machesney Park, Illinois. This is done in a variety of ways including:
- Distributing a therapeutic tricycle known as an AMTRYKE to worthy and needy recipients. (See more about AMTRYKES by clicking the “AMTRYKE” button).
- Building handicapped ramps for residences of the community.
- Funding the purchase of special items that are used by students in the Harlem School District Special Education programs. Some of these items include:
- Adaptive equipment that allows the students to participate in basic activities, such as “sitting” at a table, and “standing” at a counter.
- High tech devices that facilitate the use of computer learning systems.
- Synthesized speech equipment that assists speech impaired students to achieve independent communication.
- Provide financial aid to college students working on degrees in occupational therapy, physical therapy, therapeutic recreation, speech pathology, hearing audiology, and music therapy.
- Assisting other charities through funding requests
We meet every second Thursday of the month, and is open to all, we begin at 7:00 PM. We invite
