Who are we?
The first American Business Club (AMBUC) was founded in Birmingham, Alabama by William L. White in 1919.
The Loves Park Chapter of AMBUCS was chartered in April, 1977. the club membership has grown to over 40 professional business people who are committed to serving their community. Nationally, there are approximately 6,000 members in 156 clubs in 16 states.
The purpose of the club is to jointly serve those less fortunate than ourselves, to meet in friendship, and to learn from one another.
The national project is "Scholarships For Therapists". This is funded through the Living Endowment Fund, Inc. which helps provide scholarships for college students in their Junior/Senior year, or Graduate studies working on degrees in occupational therapy, physical therapy, therapeutic recreation, speech pathology, hearing audiology, and music therapy.
We are also very active on the local level. Our major local project is the Harlem School District Special Education Department. The Loves Park AMBUCS help to bring mainstream physically challenged students into the classroom setting by using funds to purchase:
• Adaptive equipment that allows these students to participate in basic activities, such as "sitting" at a table or "standing" at a counter.
• High tech devices that facilitate the use of computer learning systems.
• Synthesized speech equipment that helps speech impaired students to achieve independent communication.
